TURNTABLE TUESDAY - Cass County - Don Henley

Just over a month ago country got a wake-up call from classic songwriter/ performer Don Henley. Most notable as a member of the Eagles, Don Henley has come home, literally, to give us more of his heart and soul in this solo project - Cass County.

While Cass County is his solo album, Don Henley went back to his musical roots and brought other great talents on boar - talents that while crossing genre's all bring a classic sound to the table. Mick Jagger and Miranda Lambert team up on Bramble Rose, where the pedal steel leads you into a waltz so smooth you don't feel your feet touch the floor. The Cost of Living features the iconic voice of Merle Haggard. I think Martina McBride was the perfect duet partner for That Old Flame, as was Dolly Parton with When I Stop Dreaming.

No Thank You (Vince Gill on harmony), Waiting Tables (with Molly Felder, Jamey Johnson and Lee Ann Womack), Take A Picture of This (Michelle BranchSally Dworsky, Gale Mayes & Angela Primm), That Old Flame (with Martina McBride), Praying For Rain ( with Molly Felder, Vince GillAlison KraussAshley MonroeTrisha Yearwood), Train in the Distance (with Lucinda Williams)  jump off the album with the Eagles flavor we would expect from a Don Henley project.

A beautiful blend of classic country with Eagles style is apparent on Too Far Gone (with Alison Krauss Jamey Johnson),  The Brand New Tennessee Waltz (with Alison Krauss), Words Can Break Your Heart (with Trisha Yearwood), Too Much Pride (with Gale Mayes, Angela Primm). She Sang Hymns Out of Tune (with Molly Felder, Martie MaguireAshley Monroe and Emily Robison) adds a pinch of Dylan that only heightens the overall flavor of this album.

Where I Am Now sums up the album and I found the pairing with Trisha Yearwood on this a perfect match. A Younger Man is the only track Don Henley performs solo, allowing us to experience the clarity in his voice that only he can provide.

Co-produced with Stan Lynch, the album brings a sound we are familiar with from both of these talented songwriters. Don Henley never missed a drum beat in formulating this album. I'm giving Cass County:

TURNTABLE TUESDAY - 40 Years - The Bellamy Brothers

The mark of a good artist, duo or band is longevity. There is a reason The Bellamy Brothers are still putting out top notch music forty years later. Howard and David found their branding and platform long before today's marketing folks coined the phrases. Since 1976, The Bellamy Brothers have given us great music emanating from their unique sound.

In a 2008 interview I did with the guys, I commented that 'in the songs you guys did way back when, is part of what gave people the impression of the type of people you guys were, too.'
Howard replied, 'Exactly, which can be so far from the truth.... occasionally you'll get a song released that is autobiographical. It's pretty rare.'

That said, I am inclined to believe Dyin' Breed is one of those rare cuts, encapsulating who the guys are. In fact, the entire 2-CD album is all Howard and David Bellamy.... pure country. From the re-release of Let Your Love Flow (1975 initially released in Europe) to The Rock, The Bellamy Brothers deliver a continuity we have come to know, love and expect from the brothers. And in true Bellamy Brother fashion, they have not disappointed.

One of the many things that makes this album unique is in the marketing. This album has the opportunity to change millions of lives. The Bellamy Brothers are proud to partner with the Susan G. Komen foundation.  $1 for each US download of their 40 Years album (through December 31, 2016) will be donated to the Susan G. Komen foundation to further breast cancer research. From a group who have a proven track record of platinum albums, selling 1 million copies, that's a HUGE chunk of change to help find a cure for a disease that touches every person in one way or another.

The guys got together in Ft. Worth TX this summer with breast cancer survivors to film this new video as part of the partnership launch.

40 YEARS.. The Album is a journey rather than a destination... and the Bellamy Brothers still have lots of miles to cover.

TURNTABLE TUESDAY - Yours - Abraham Weaver

One of the great things about my job is finding gems buried within social media. I love the process even more when those gems find me. Such was the case with Abraham Weaver, a talented artist from Austin, TX.

The thing I love most about this album is that I can hear Abraham. His soulful, Jim Croce style to his voice, evidence of the four years he spent in Pennsylvania. Each note comes through soft and genuine... not buried in unnecessary instruments.

YOURS is a date night album from start to finish. Ain't It Amazin' kicks off the ten tracks, pulling you onto the dance floor and keeps you there right into that moment where you move in closer to one another for A Smile Like Yours. The south and west Texas influences come out with the Spanish-inspired lyrics of Angelina.

In You  carries a subliminal message of the importance of a Higher Power in our life and the peace that can come from letting go. The guitar lead in for Somehow opens the door into a glimpse into his talent. I've heard artists play the guitar and I've heard others beat the strings to death. Abraham treats his with love and a passion that comes from within, a technique perfect for this song.

Why Did You Have To Go is the question we all have asked at one time or another, and while the answer never comes, this piece soothes the pain of the loss.  In Long Night in Santa Fe and Depending On You  Abraham brings the angst through. I just want to tell him 'everything's going to be alright.' That kind of a emotion you experience from songs with real depth. Nothing Happens Overnight is the visceral response that comes with the dawning of a new day, a . new perspective.
The album closes out with the title track. Yours brings everything back into perspective, bringing the album full circle both from a romantic and religious point of view.

YOURS is the result of several talented people. While Abraham did not have a direct hand in writing the lyrics for the entire album, his touch is felt in every caress of the guitar strings.  Abraham Weaver knew what he was doing when he teamed up with producer/ composer Rick Orozco. The magic these two have created on this album is just short of genius.

Another thing that makes YOURS unique is in the marketing. The CD not only has ten beautifully mastered tracks but also a Digital Booklet with photos and lyrics - something I've not seen in any other CD.

Not once did I detect an off note or a word that didn't seem to fit. YOURS is a soulful, romantic 'couples' album. Cozy up to the fire, pour a glass of wine and pull your sweetheart close.
