CHRISTMAS IN KELLY'S COUNTRY - Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas

GIF courtesy of fg-a.com

If you've not realized by now, Kelly's Country is more than just 'country' music. I love most types of music. My favorite movies have always been Hollywood musicals. I love the orchestra notes that carry you to a different world. Classics like this one from Frank Sinatra:

CHRISTMAS IN KELLY'S COUNTRY - My Name is Christmas Carol

GIF Courtesy of fg-a.com

While driving to Poplar Bluff yesterday to deliver cookies to my support team at Office Depot, I scanned the radio channels looking for Christmas music. I stopped at one of my usual spots on the dial when driving this direction - 97.5 The Storm when I heard the beginning strains of a song I have not heard in years. A song of hope by Skip Ewing.  The video is from the YouTube channel of Ekarmet

Who will you share your Christmas with?

TURNTABLE TUESDAY - Christmas Time - Rhonda Vincent

I love Christmas. Aside from some of the yummy treats I only enjoy during this time of year, I love the blessings of family and friends. Being together with those we love and feeling the blessings warms my heart.  If these things are tops on your Holiday list, then you will love Christmas Time - the new holiday album by Rhonda Vincent - and friends. Lots of friends!

Rhonda, along with Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, Charlie Daniels, The Oak Ridge Boys, Ronnie Milsap, Gene Watson, Bill Anderson, Larry Gatlin, Jeannie Seely, Lorrie Morgan, Pam Tillis and EmiShine come together in a beautiful collection of both traditional and uplifting Christmas carols - including four written by Rhonda.

Rhonda talks about her Christmas Time CD on her  YouTube channel:

While we think of Rhonda as a bluegrass artist, she is a consummate professional, blurring the boundaries of bluegrass, country and traditional into a beautiful ombre of color and love.

Whether you want something to trim your tree by or sing along to, Christmas Time is the perfect new addition to your holiday music collection.

Rhonda loves to hear from her fans. Stop by her FB or Twitter pages to wish her a Merry Christmas!

TURNTABLE TUESDAY - Christmas with T. Graham Brown

I am kicking off my Christmas music season with a guy who has been a favorite of mine for years. T. Graham Brown is one of the most congenial, talented, respected artists in the business. His passion comes through on his Christmas album - Christmas with T. Graham Brown.

The album has a beautiful selection of traditional favorites. Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas, Here Comes Santa Claus, I'll Be Home For Christmas, Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree, Silver Bells, Run Run Rudolph, Jingle Bell Rock, White Christmas and Away In A Manger all put us in the seasonal spirit.

Two signature tracks on this album show us the fun side of T. Graham Brown as well as his spiritual depth.  Santa Claus is Coming In A UFO (written by T, his wife Sheila and their son Acme) is that fun song you can't help but sing along to. But the best new piece on this album, and sure to become a classic, is Mary Had A Little Lamb (written with Sheila and Jimmy Fortune. This inspirational twist on a nursery rhyme title ranks with caroles we have sang for generations such as Angels We Have Heard On High and What Child Is This. Where the traditional songs put us in the Christmas Spirit, Mary Had A Little Lamb will put the Christmas Spirit in your heart.

Christmas with T. Graham Brown is a must have in any Christmas music collection.

I'm tipping this one:

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Part of this is reposted from last Thanksgiving but bears repeating.
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

I feel so blessed to be living my dream as an entertainment journalist. And I have all of you to thank. You've opened up your homes and your hearts, given of your time and continued to network with me. I am truly thankful for each and every one of you. I hope today finds you with family, friends and taking a moment to count your blessings.

Here are my Top 5
1 - Husband (Bob) He is the absolute best! So supportive of this 'starving artist' career path I've chosen

2 - My family. Aside from writing, I never wanted to be anything but a mom. I love my daughter and she has blessed me with two adorable granddaughters. I can't imagine my life without them.
My two sisters and their families. We're not always close, but we're love each other.

3- Friends. I am blessed to know so many people and love them all for their individuality. But it's nice to have those really close ones who will be there for you no matter what.

4 - My abilities - first and foremost the ability to learn. They say knowledge is power. Self-empowerment is a Good Thing!

5 - Encompassing my many blessings in this one. My heart is full thanks to my Faith and all I am able to accept in this life because of my Faith.

and a BONUS.... I am thankful for our Troops. They've all stepped up and put themselves in harms way so that we may have today and all it's blessings.

Remember those not here with us on this day of all days when Family should be together.
Country Blessings
Kelly

TURNTABLE TUESDAY - Cowboy Romeo - Mike Hernandez

When an artist approaches me with their music it means they have taken the time to search me out and want to know my opinion. Reviewing music is like critiquing a manuscript. You want to encourage the artist but still point out their flaws. From my point as an author, I want someone to tell me what I need to fix and I hope that when an artist approaches me, they are willing to learn.

Mike Hernandez has jumped through those hoops... and learned the lessons necessary that should put him on the charts. Not just Texas but Indie's and Billboard. His music is pure country with strong Texas influence.   As you listen to the twelve tracks on his Cowboy Romeo album, you will hear a consistency unlike anything I've reviewed in some time. Some artists produce their albums with high and low points like a roller coaster ride. While this is not a bad thing (we use this technique in fiction writing all the time), sometimes you just want to take a lazy float and enjoy the moment. Cowboy Romeo is that moment.

Don't get me wrong, not all of the songs are slow.  The title track has an undercurrent of Tejano that pulls you to the dance floor and the rest of the album will keep you there until the final strains of Adios Amiga.

Mike wants everyone to know who he is and the type of music he is capable of. That may be why you can listen to the entire album on his Reverbnation and Webpage.  From those locations you can purchase the downloadable tracks you like, which I'm betting is going to be all of them.

If you like George Strait, Rick Trevino and Alan Jackson, you will love Mike Hernandez.

If I had one critique about COWBOY ROMEO it would be that while I understand the marketing aspect of this album, I do not think I would offer full versions to the general public on future albums. As my mom would say, 'why buy what you can get for free?' This album is worth paying for.

I'm tipping my hat:

ALBUM REVIEW - Keep On Bein' Me - Josh Fuller

KEEP ON BEIN' ME, the latest album from Josh Fuller is a well-balanced blend of where he comes from and what he knows will get air-play.

While air-play always has to be a major part of the equation in this industry, there is always that fine line an artist walks between getting the air-play without losing who they are as an artist. Sometimes, they have to go with the flow to get the 'real' stuff - the music that defines them - heard. Josh Fuller walks this tight rope with all the expertise of a seasoned artist.

HITCHED and SMALL TOWN FRIDAY  are perfect examples, sharing strong country roots with a vibe that will get the airplay needed to move this album forward. Another example is ON THE RADIOreaching Top 30 on Texas Regional Radio Report (#30) and Top 50 on Texas Music Chart (#41)

Of the thirteen tracks on this album, three songs stand out for me. "Music is a powerful mood altering drug; the right song at the right time connects with your soul,” states Fuller. JUST HERE and 14 PEWS are two emotionally- charged songs that accomplish what Josh was after. With it's finger-poppin', blues back beat, YOU THINK TO MUCH is a song that just has you boppin' along.

And if Farmers Only.com ever need a second theme song, FARMHANDS gets the point across.

If you like Dierks Bentley with a bit more country flavor, then you will love KEEP ON BEIN' ME.

Here's a sample of what you'll find on KEEP ON BEIN' ME:

About Jean Synodinos:
Jean Synodinos (say it like this: sin-uh-DEE-nus) delivers grit, grace and acoustic soul with a voice that's been hailed by critics as “big league” and "show-stopping." Her award-winning writing digs deep, moving from big affirmations to little ironies at the turn of a phrase.  Deftly skating between genres, Jean easily slips from folk to pop to jazz to blues and more to create dynamic live performances and recordings that make audiences ask for more.
