TURNTABLE TUESDAY - Diamond in a Rhinestone World - Breelan Angel
DIAMOND IN A RHINESTONE WORLD is Breelan Angel's Sophomore album. True to who she is as an artist, Breelan has not strayed far from her debut album, Dirty Little Secrets. Her signature sound still carries that bit of sass we have come to know and love from Breelan.
Rhinestone World recalls a comment Breelan made during my interview with her last year. I asked her about her strategy for staying true to herself as an artist. She replied:
The only way I’m going to enjoy what I do is if I’m performing songs that I believe in and love. If I’m not happy with the material because it’s not who I am, then I’m not giving my audience what they deserve and that’s essential when connecting with your fans.

The only deviation from her debut album is that Breelan has co-written only five of the seven songs (as opposed to all the tracks on her first album). The one continuity in true country, especially out of Texas, is the tune should pull you onto a dance floor. While the lyrics tell a story, the music encourages you to find your favorite guy or gal and lose yourself in the magical world created by the artists. Every track on this CD is a perfect example of Breelan's firm grasp on her style.
The fun side of Breelan comes through loud and clear on Rub A Little Dirt On It. The rest of the tracks, from Dancin' With the Devil, which she co-wrote with fellow Texas artist Bri Bagwell to Nothin' Cuts Like A Diamond and every track in between is a cozy-up feel-good chain of events you will not want to miss.
DIAMOND IN A RHINESTONE WORLD releases on October 2. Until then, I'll leave you with the YouTube of Rub A Little Dirt On It.

THE PARTY LIST - Temporarily on Hiatus
I've always said family comes first. This week is one of those times when I just can't do everything. I tried to get the list up for today but there just wasn't enough time between this and getting the house ready for company.
I'm not saying The Party List won't appear... just not Today. I still hope to get at least an abbreviated version up and some Twitter notes run. But Family First. Thank you for your patience.
Country Blessings!

TURNTABLE TUESDAY - Real No One
Thankfully, that was NOT the case with REAL NO ONE by AJ Guel. The album is a no holds barred, 'this is who I am' type of guy.
I consider this album to be an introduction of who AJ is and what we can expect down the line. Aside from the title track, Texan By the Grace of God plants his boots on solid ground. From there, he leads us through a series of true country love songs. Run Away Tonight (with Rachel Delgado), Before That Cowboy Fell In Love, and Time Machine shine a rosy glow on love while Dreamin', Jaded and Quicksand flip the coin. While still a love song at it's core, Make Me Wanna Dance is less about soft romance and more about getting the the most reluctant dancer on the floor with the a pretty girl.
AJ's songwriting style is a mix of George Strait, Chris LeDoux and Willie Nelson. Now there's a recipe for a future if ever there was one. I did detect a couple of flat spots but over-all this is a great roots album. I'm tipping my hat:
.5
