TURNTABLE TUESDAY - Little Lion

Good morning, listeners!

Today, I have the pleasure of sharing an EP (only 4 tracks) from Teghan Devon.  If you've every lost someone, even a pet, then this LITTLE LION belongs in your  musical library.

Little Lion is more of a tribute EP to her dog, Sarge. Here's a bit about her precious friend:

Sarge was more than just a dog. He was larger than life. He fought through laryngeal paralysis, a broken leg, three surgeries, his heart stopping for 10-12 minutes, a traumatic brain injury and multiple arthritis attacks. He was a miracle and my guardian angel. He was by my side through every heardship, every challenge, always showng me the good in the world and in myself. He was meant to be in my life. Losing Sarge is one of the hardes things I have ever had to go through. .... We've all lost someone we loved. My someone happened to have paws and the biggest, purest heart.

While the EP may be about the loss of her trusted companion, the undercurrent of emotion is powerful. In all my years of reviewing artists' music have I ever been moved to tears. EVER.

Teghan Devon has a breathless, other-world quality to her voice that carries you on a boundless journey... to places never reached before or levels you've avoided.  Until now.

Grab a tissue -or three then sit back, close your eyes and let LITTLE LION heal you in ways you didn't know you needed.

I'm tipping my hat:

You'll find Teghan Devon on the following social media platforms:

I'm dedicating today's review to my Great Pyreneese/ Chow mix - Bear. He's been gone almost a year but I still miss the dog who chose me every single day.

WEDNESDAY REVIEW - One Town Over

First off, thank you all for your patience yesterday. After a short nap I wound up being much more me and worked up til 9 p.m. on house projects.

If sleep eludes you or you just want to make sure you get a good night's sleep so you can function the next day I recommend Zzquil.

Okay...on to yesterday's review today:

If ever there was a provacative CD on the market, it's ONE TOWN OVER. Patrick is a master storyteller that when you really listen to the lyrics, of its own violition your mind begins to process what he's telling you.

For ONE TOWN OVER you find yourself dissecting each song to discover what part of human nature and a life experience he's talking about.

One such track struck me was Refugee's Plea. Now, as a media representative I'm privy to some things including the story behind the song, or what was on the writer's mind. The piece GF shares on this track is this...
The idea that people living in a land of plenty have the right to tell someone else to stay in the hell we've helped build for them is infuriating. If we wouldn't trade places with someone, we shouldn't be so quick to send them back.

Talk about a poignant piece for this time we're in if ever there was one! I'll be sharing the video below, but let me finish this review.

G. F. Patrick has a true Americana voice. While it may at times have a monotone quality, that tone is used as a tool to carry you through the story. He doesn't try to be something he isn't except a guy with stories to share.

While most tracks meander like a slow-moving stream, we all know into every stream a bit of turbulance appears at some point. That turbulance in ONE TOWN OVER is Anger of Magdelene. This is a murderous ballad from the persepctive of a woman in charge. When I read the story behind the song I instantly thought of Goodby Earl by The Dixie Chicks. At some point a woman finally hits that point where she is either going to continue to be beat into the ground or stand up and take charge. Anger of Magdelene is that story.

Over all, ONE TOWN OVER is a stellar album from a talented storyteller who has been looking at life through an artists eye since he was five years old.

I invite you to listen to this album then look at the world around you with new eyes, to look beyond the curtain of hate and destruction to why it's there in the first place.

I'm giving ONE TOWN OVER:

 .8

You'll find G. F. Patrick on the following social media accounts and can purchase the album through his website STORE.

TURNTABLE TUESDAY - Delayed

I apologize for the delayed post today. I had a horrid night last night with very little sleep. I have been dealing with a horrendous headache for the past 2 days.  Hopefully, I can listen to the CD again this afternoon to refresh my memory as I finish writing this post.

Thank you for your patience.

OUT OF THE CHUTE - Back to Work

Thank you all for your patience last week. I still don't have any complete resolution to the Unemployment issue but at least I know I wasn't the only one. Apparently, there was a breach issue in four states - Illinois and Colorado being two. While I've never applied for unemployment, I worked for people who paid into unemployment in those states. I just have to keep trying to get through to them. I spent three hours on hold four days in a row last week. My call would be dropped EXACTLY at the 3-hour mark due to a 'large volume of calls'. Gee - ya think!

With that in mind, I'm back to business this week and will continue to try and call them on and off til I get through.

Tomorrow, I'll be posting a review of  ONE TOWN OVER by G. F. Patrick  You saw the title video last week... now it's time to give you a complete review.

I'm also hoping to start letting you know when there are viral concerts you can check out.  I know things are crazy right now and sadly, the restrictions they are talking about for Live shows just takes all the fun out of attending a concert. We will just have to see what happens.

In the mean time, some live shows are beginning to open up.

Mike Blakely has four live shows this week:

Tueday 6/2 -  Western Edge Cellars - Fredricksburg TX 7-9 p.m.
Thursday 6/4 - The Dirty South - Angleton TX 7-9 p.m. NO COVER!
Friday 6/5 - Lone Star Bar & Grill - Fredricksburg TX (3 miles west of town) 7-10 p.m.
/w Kurt Baumer & Troy Miller
Sunday 6/7 - Lone Star Bar & Grill - Fredricksburg 3-6 p.m.

I'll try to get some of the Virtual shows up on Thursday. Stay tuned!!!
