TURNTABLE TUESDAY - FULL CIRCLE - Loretta Lynn

From the opening dialogue between Loretta Lynn and co-producer John Carter Cash introducing Whispering Sea to Lay Me Down (w/ Willie Nelson) FULL CIRCLE is Classic Country at it's best. Her daughter Patsy Lynn Russell also held part of the production reins.

A compilation of original music and covers, FULL CIRCLE will carry you to the front porch of Loretta Lynn's home in Hurricane Mills. You feel as if you are sitting in one of the rocking chairs listening to her melodic voice carry 'cross the holler. This is Loretta Lynn's first album in 10 years yet her voice is as clear and strong as her first release over fifty years ago.

The album, recorded at Cash Cabin Studios in Hendersonville TN is a step back to the way Country Music used to be... music we can not let go of.

The first thing that caught me about this CD was the cover. Vintage rose-patterned wallpaper inspired, to the rough barn siding of a cabin firmly grounds us in Loretta Lynn's roots... where her music came from. She is photographed in a beautiful gown... a style that has become Loretta's signature style throughout the decades.

The one surprise on this album is Everything It Takes (featuring Elvis Costello) Whether this was an attempt to bridge the geneation(s) gap of faithful fans to new or just an artists ear for recognizing talent, regardless of the genre, the pairing works well and opens up new roads out of Hurricane Mills.

Loretta Lynn is a timeless country music legend, truly the reigning Queen,

I'm tipping my hat:

TURNTABLE TUESDAY - JUST MOVE ON - Libby Koch

As I sat preparing to write this review, I let JUST MOVE ON loop in the background. There is something about the mix of tracks on this newest release by Libby Koch (pronounced like the soda) that speaks to every part of me.

From the first first finger-snapping strains of JUST MOVE ON through the deep desire of WISH YOU WERE HERE, you follow Libby on a relationship journey that everyone can identify with at each stop along the way.

While Libby is native Texan, YOU DON'T LIVE HERE ANYMORE carries the strongest resemblance to a traditional country and less of the Americana roots she is known for. You will also hear an unmistakable lilt in her vocals.  If ever there is a song that brings true 'country' back to country radio, YOU DON'T LIVE HERE ANYMORE will do just that. If you want to be a part of putting 'country' back on the radio, request airplay at your local station.

OUT OF MY MISERY recaps putting a bad relationship in the past and the promise of moving forward while DON'T KNOW HOW is all about that first step of wading back into the dating pool, CHANCE ON ME is that point of decision... the fork in the road.

I'VE BEEN BLIND carries a bit more pop without losing track of where Libby wanted this album to traverse. She knows her audience.

Every relationship needs that moment where we just slow down and contemplate the whole sordid mess. TELL ME NO LIES is that perfect moment on the dance floor where you just let it all go.

Libby Koch reminds us of her Texas music in BRING YOU DOWN. That toe-tapping, tune you'll hear in every honky tonk for years to come and has 'hit' written all over it.

LADY LUCK is that quiet, reflective song... the type that reaches deep into your soul.

BACK TO HOUSTON talks of leaving Tennessee... ironic considering this album was recorded in two days - in Nashville! Regardless, there is nothing like going back home... or Texas in general.
Where ever you call home, there is always that one person in our life we WISH YOU WERE HERE... bringing this album full circle.

JUST MOVE ON was eighteen months in the making, yet culminated to live-tracking thirteen original songs in two days - eleven of them coming together beautifully on this album. Produced by Grammy-winning producer, Bil Vorndick,

Everything about this album reminds me that country music isn't dead, but up until now, has been buried in the heart of Texas. As a former attorney, Libby Koch knows all about presenting her case and she has done a stellar job on this album.

Here's a video of YOU DON'T LIVE HERE ANYMORE from her YouTube channel:

Libby Koch is a true artist and I'm tipping my hat:

 .8

BACK TO WORK!

I had an AMAZING weekend. Met up with Ray Benson and the gang from Asleep at the Wheel on Friday night.

For the first time ever here in Kelly's Country, I'll be doing a 4-day run with an artist, coming up mid-July with Ray Benson. You gotta stay tuned for this mega KC event!

Friday Recap

Sunday night, I caught a Concert Window with Libby Koch. Libby was showcasing her new album being released this Thursday. I'll be posting my review of JUST MOVE ON tomorrow for Turntable Tuesday.

Thursday, The Party List resumes.  There will not be any links for a few more weeks. The Tendonitis is finally healing so I do not want to push things. Hoping by August 1, the links can resume. Thanks to all of you for your patience.

Country Blessings!

HIATUS UPDATE!

Thank you all for your patience while my arm heals. I'm still having some stress issues. I will be resuming the blog in full force on Monday June 20th.

The Party List will resume on Thursday June 23rd. However, I will only be doing links on days that my arm will allow. Overuse of the mouse really stresses the tendons/ nerves so once the pain starts to move in, I stop.

We have some great reviews coming up:

Libby Koch,
Asleep at the Wheel (Out of the Chute, CD Review, Concert Coverage)
Loretta Lynn
Brian Gowan

Country Blessings!
